How to Become a Performance Marketer in Jordan
11 September 2026 · By Mohammad Khalil · Paid Ads
Performance marketers are hired for one thing: turning ad budget into sales and leads you can measure. In Jordan, that demand comes from local brands, agencies in Amman and Gulf businesses that hire remote talent. This guide covers the daily work, the skills, a 6-month roadmap and how to get hired.
What does a performance marketer do day to day?
The job is less about "posting ads" and more about running small experiments with real money. A typical day looks like this:
- Morning check. Review spend and results against targets such as CPA (cost per acquisition) and ROAS (return on ad spend). Look for anything broken: a rejected ad, a tracking drop, a budget that ran out early.
- Optimise. Pause what is not working, move budget toward what is, and adjust audiences or bids.
- Launch tests. New creatives, new hooks, new landing pages or new offers.
- Brief the creative team. Tell designers and video creators what to make, based on what the data shows.
- Report. Explain to a client or manager what happened, why, and what you will do next.
You will spend most of your time on Meta, Google, TikTok and Snapchat. In Jordan, Facebook ads can reach 5.45M people, more than Snapchat (4.10M) or Instagram (4.05M), according to DataReportal's Digital 2025: Jordan. That is why most junior roles here start with Meta.
Which skills do you need?
| Skill | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| Ad platforms | Build campaigns correctly in Meta, Google, TikTok and Snapchat Ads Manager |
| Tracking | Set up the Pixel, Conversions API, GA4 and UTM tags so results are trustworthy |
| Analysis | Read the numbers, find the cause of a change and decide what to do |
| Creative testing | Run structured A/B tests on hooks, formats and offers |
| Reporting | Turn data into a short, clear story a business owner understands |
| AI tools | Use assistants like Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini to draft copy, analyse exports and plan tests faster |
Two soft skills matter just as much. First, clear writing in Arabic and English, because most clients in Jordan and the Gulf work in both. Second, commercial thinking: knowing margins, average order value and what a lead is actually worth to the business.
What does a 6-month learning roadmap look like?
Learn one layer at a time. Each month builds on the last.
- Month 1: Foundations. The funnel, key metrics (CPA, ROAS, CTR, conversion rate), and how ad auctions work. Set up a Meta Business portfolio and an ad account.
- Month 2: Meta Ads. Campaign objectives, audiences, creative formats, and campaigns for sales, leads and WhatsApp messages. Run your first small test.
- Month 3: Tracking. GA4, Google Tag Manager, the Meta Pixel and Conversions API, and UTM tags. Without this, nothing else can be measured.
- Month 4: Google Ads. Search campaigns, keywords and match types, then Performance Max.
- Month 5: TikTok and Snapchat. Short-form video creative, and the platforms that lead with younger audiences in Jordan and the Gulf.
- Month 6: Reporting and job prep. Build a simple dashboard, use AI to speed up analysis, finish your portfolio and practise interviews.
This is the same order we follow in the Performance Marketing Diploma in Amman, so you can study it alone or with guidance.
How do you build a portfolio without a job?
Employers want proof that you can think with numbers. You can create that proof before your first role:
- Run your own small budget tests. Promote something real, such as your own product, a page you manage or a friend's business with permission, using a small daily budget. Record the setup, the spend, the results and what you learned. Small numbers are fine; honest numbers matter.
- Write full campaign plans. Pick a real Jordanian brand and write the plan you would run: objective, audiences, creative ideas, budget split, KPIs and a testing schedule.
- Do mock audits. Use the public Meta Ad Library to study a brand's active ads, then review its landing pages and suggest three tests. You need no account access for this.
Put each piece on one page: the problem, what you did, the numbers and the lesson. Three strong case studies beat ten weak ones.
Should you go in-house, agency or freelance?
Each path suits a different person:
- In-house. You work on one brand and learn its business deeply: margins, stock, seasons. Good if you like depth and ownership.
- Agency. You manage several accounts across industries and learn fast, often under pressure. Many agencies in Amman also serve Gulf clients, so you gain wide experience quickly.
- Freelance. You work directly with businesses in Jordan and the Gulf, which share similar working hours and the Arabic language. It needs proof of results, good communication and the discipline to manage your own clients.
Many marketers start at an agency to learn quickly, then choose in-house or freelance later. Not sure which fits you? Take our free marketer type quiz.
How do you pass a performance marketing interview?
Most interviews include one key question: "Tell me about a campaign you ran." Answer it with numbers, in this order:
- Goal. What the business needed, such as sales, leads or messages.
- Setup. Platform, objective, audience and creative approach.
- Numbers. Spend, results, and the cost per result or ROAS.
- Changes. What you tested or adjusted, and why.
- Outcome and lesson. What improved, what did not, and what you would do differently.
Expect a practical task too: reviewing an account screenshot, calculating a break-even ROAS, or suggesting tests for a weak campaign. Be honest about small budgets. A clear method on a small test is more convincing than vague claims about big ones.
Prepare short answers to these common questions as well:
- How would you set up tracking for a new online store?
- Results dropped by half this week. What do you check first?
- How do you decide when a test has a winner?
- How do you explain a bad month to a client?

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a marketing degree to become a performance marketer?
No. Employers care more about practical skills and proof of work, such as tests you ran and campaigns you can explain with numbers. A degree in any field helps, but a strong portfolio matters more.
Can I work for Gulf clients while living in Jordan?
Yes. Many agencies and freelancers in Jordan manage campaigns for clients in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and the wider Gulf remotely. Knowing the Gulf market and writing well in Arabic and English gives you an edge.
Which ad platform should I learn first?
Start with Meta Ads, because Facebook and Instagram are where most Jordanian businesses advertise. Then learn tracking, followed by Google Ads, TikTok and Snapchat.
