Google, Meta, TikTok or Snapchat: Where Should a Small Business Start Advertising?
25 September 2026 · By Mohammad Khalil · Paid Ads
Most small businesses do not struggle with advertising because they picked the wrong platform. They struggle because they tried four platforms at once with a budget that suits one. This guide helps you choose where to start, based on how your customers buy, who they are, and what you can produce.
How do you choose an ad platform for a small business?
Start with one question: are your customers already searching for what you sell?
- Search intent. If people type "dentist in Abdoun" or "office chairs Amman" into Google, they already want something. Google Ads puts you in front of them at that moment. You pay to capture demand that already exists.
- Discovery. If people do not yet know they need your product, they will not search for it. A new perfume brand, a fashion label or a new café needs to be seen first. Meta, TikTok and Snapchat show your ads to people while they scroll, based on who they are and what they engage with. You pay to create demand.
Then check four more things:
- Audience. How old are your customers, and which apps do they open every day?
- Product. Is it visual and easy to show in a few seconds, or does it need explaining?
- Budget. How much can you spend on learning, without needing a profit in the first weeks?
- Creative capacity. Can you produce new photos and short videos every week, or only a few a month?
How do Google, Meta, TikTok and Snapchat compare?
| Platform | Main strength | Best for | Creative you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Ads | Reaches people who are actively searching | Services, urgent needs, products people already look for | Text ads and a strong landing page; images and video for Performance Max |
| Meta (Facebook and Instagram) | Broad reach and many campaign goals, including leads and WhatsApp messages | Most consumer products and local services | Images, carousels and short videos |
| TikTok | Fast discovery through short, entertaining video | Visual, trend-friendly products for younger buyers | Vertical video that looks native to the app, refreshed often |
| Snapchat | Reaches younger, mobile-first audiences in Jordan and the Gulf | Fashion, beauty, food, gadgets and apps | Full-screen vertical video and story-style ads |
Two notes on the table. Meta is often the easiest starting point for visual products, because one account covers Facebook and Instagram and supports sales, lead forms and click-to-WhatsApp ads. TikTok and Snapchat reward ads that look like normal user content rather than polished commercials, so your phone and a good idea often matter more than a studio.
How many people can each platform reach in Jordan?
Reach is part of the decision. According to DataReportal's Digital 2025: Jordan report, Facebook ads can reach 5.45 million people in Jordan, Snapchat 4.10 million and Instagram 4.05 million. The same report puts internet use at 92.5% of the population at the start of 2025.
What this means in practice:
- Facebook still offers the widest ad reach in Jordan, so Meta is a safe default for broad local audiences.
- Snapchat's ad reach is larger than Instagram's. If your buyers are young, skipping Snapchat leaves a large audience to your competitors.
- Reach is not the same as fit. A smaller platform where your exact customers spend time can beat a bigger one where they scroll past you.
Which platform should you start with? A simple decision path
Answer these questions in order and stop at the first "yes":
- Do people search for your product or service on Google? Test it by typing the words a customer would use. If competitors are advertising on those searches, there is demand. Start with Google Ads Search.
- Are most of your customers under 30, and is your product easy to show in a short vertical video? Start with Snapchat or TikTok. Choose Snapchat if your audience lives on stories and chat; choose TikTok if you can keep up with trend-style videos. We teach both in Algurus Academy's TikTok & Snapchat Ads course in Amman.
- Do you sell a visual product, or want leads and WhatsApp conversations from a broad local audience? Start with Meta.
- Still unsure? Start with Meta. It has the broadest reach in Jordan and the widest range of campaign goals.
Once the first platform is profitable, or at least clearly understood, add a second. A common next step is retargeting: showing ads on the second platform to people who already visited your site or engaged with your first ads.
How much should a small business spend to start?
There is no magic number, but there is a logic:
- One platform first. A small budget split across four platforms gives each one too little data to learn from. You get four weak tests instead of one clear answer.
- Test small, but not too small. Your daily budget should allow several conversions a week. Hypothetical example: if you are willing to pay up to 5 JOD for a lead, a 3 JOD daily budget cannot produce even one lead a day. Work backward from your target cost per lead or CPA.
- Commit to a test period. Give your first campaign at least two to three weeks before you judge it. Platforms need time and data to optimize delivery.
- Set a stop-loss. Decide in advance how much you will spend before you change the offer, the creative or the platform.
- Keep money and time for creative. On TikTok and Snapchat especially, a fresh video can move results more than a bigger budget.

What mistakes do small businesses make when they start advertising?
- Boosting posts instead of building campaigns. The boost button is easy, but full campaigns give you control over the goal, the audience and the tracking.
- No tracking. Without the Meta Pixel, the TikTok Pixel, the Snap Pixel or Google conversion tracking, you cannot tell which ads bring sales. Set it up before you spend.
- The wrong campaign goal. Choosing reach or engagement when you want sales tells the platform to find people who like and scroll, not people who buy.
- Changing everything every day. Constant edits restart the learning phase. Change one thing at a time.
- Judging by likes. Measure cost per lead, cost per sale and ROAS, not applause.

Frequently asked questions
Can I advertise on several platforms at once with a small budget?
You can, but it usually slows down learning. Each platform needs enough conversions to optimize, so a small budget works better on one platform first.
Is TikTok or Snapchat better for selling in Jordan?
It depends on where your customers spend time and how much video you can produce. Run the same offer on the one that fits your audience best, then compare cost per sale before adding the other.
Do I need a website to start advertising?
Not always. Meta, TikTok and Snapchat all offer instant lead forms, and Meta can send people straight to WhatsApp. For online sales and reliable tracking, a website or online store is strongly recommended.
Where is the TikTok & Snapchat Ads course held, and how much does it cost?
