Meta Product Browsing Is Now On by Default: Keep It or Turn It Off?
30 October 2026 · By Mohammad Khalil · Paid Ads
Product browsing is a Meta ads feature that adds an in-app shopping page between your ad and your website. When someone taps your ad, Meta can first show them a page inside Facebook or Instagram with product photos, prices, offers and personalised suggestions, and they can continue to your site from there. Until recently you had to switch it on yourself. Since 28 October 2026, Meta adds it to existing ads automatically unless you opted out, so if you run Sales campaigns you should decide now whether to keep it.
What is Meta product browsing?
Product browsing is one of the Advantage+ creative options. Meta's help page calls it "a personalized browsing experience". It is built from your product catalog: the photos, prices and details people see come from the catalog connected to your ads in Commerce Manager.
Meta's destinations help page lists it among the optional destinations for ads in campaigns with the Sales objective and a website conversion location (The Keyword). Buying still happens on your website: the browsing page sends people to your site to complete the purchase.
What changed on 28 October?
On 14 October 2026, advertisers received a notice in Ads Manager and by email: "Starting October 28, 2026, we'll add product browsing to your existing ads." The notice included an opt-out button.
| Before 28 October | From 28 October | |
|---|---|---|
| Existing ads | Off unless you turned it on | On, unless you opted out |
| Control | Advantage+ creative settings | Same: you can turn it off per ad at any time |
| New and duplicated ads | Optional | Check each one: advertisers report the setting can come back on in copies |
If you missed the opt-out, nothing is locked. You can still switch product browsing off in each ad's Advantage+ creative and destination settings and publish the change.
Why is Meta turning it on?
Meta says businesses saw 3% more conversions on average with product browsing than without it. The test ran from 6 to 21 August 2026 across about 117,700 advertisers in e-commerce, consumer goods and retail.
That is a real test at large scale, but read it carefully. It is Meta's own result, an average across very different stores, and Meta has not said which conversions were counted or how results varied. A 3% lift on average means some advertisers did much better and some did worse.
Who should keep it, and who should turn it off?
The answer depends on where your sale really happens: in the product photo, or on your landing page.
| Keep product browsing on | Consider turning it off |
|---|---|
| Large catalogs with clear photos and prices | Stores that sell with a landing page: bundles, quizzes, long descriptions |
| Simple, impulse purchases: fashion, accessories, beauty, gifts | High-ticket products that need trust: watches, jewellery, furniture |
| Shoppers who like to compare several products | Ads that send people to a specific offer or collection page |
| Good catalog quality: correct prices, stock and images | Catalogs with missing images, wrong prices or out-of-stock items |
Two risks are worth knowing. First, agencies report that the personalised suggestions can include other products, which you do not control. Second, people who browse inside Meta and leave never reach your site, so your pixel and GA4 see fewer visits even when Ads Manager looks stable.
How do you check whether it works for you?
Test it instead of guessing. Run two matching ad sets with the same budget and audience, one with product browsing on and one with it off, for 7 to 10 days. Then compare them on your own store data: orders, revenue and conversion rate, not only Ads Manager results.
Before you start, note your normal ratio of Meta link clicks to website sessions in GA4. If that ratio drops a lot after 28 October, more people are stopping inside Meta. Tag every ad with UTM parameters so you can see Meta traffic clearly, and make sure your Meta Pixel and Conversions API report purchases correctly. Our tracking checklist covers each step.
How do you turn product browsing off?
- Open Ads Manager and go to the ad, not the campaign or ad set.
- Open the Advantage+ creative settings and the destination settings of the ad.
- Switch product browsing off and publish.
- Repeat for every live ad, and check new and duplicated ads, because the setting can be on by default there.
If you keep it on, check your catalog first: correct prices, stock, clear images and titles in Arabic and English. The page Meta shows is only as good as your feed.
What does this mean for stores in Jordan and the Gulf?
Many stores in the region sell through cash on delivery, WhatsApp questions and a landing page that builds trust. For them, an extra step before the website can cost sales, so test before you accept the default. Stores with large catalogs of fashion, beauty or gifts may benefit, especially in busy seasons such as White Friday, Ramadan and Eid. Either way, decide with your own numbers and your break-even ROAS, not with Meta's average.

Frequently asked questions
What is product browsing in Meta ads?
It is an Advantage+ creative option that can show people a page inside Facebook or Instagram with your products, prices and personalised suggestions after they tap your ad, before they go to your website.
Is product browsing on by default?
Since 28 October 2026, Meta adds it to existing ads unless the advertiser opted out. You can still turn it off for each ad in the Advantage+ creative and destination settings.
Does product browsing reduce my website traffic?
It can. People who browse inside Facebook or Instagram and leave never reach your site, so compare Meta link clicks with GA4 sessions and judge results by your store's orders and revenue.
Should a small store in Jordan keep product browsing on?
Test it first. It tends to suit simple catalog products like fashion, beauty and gifts, while stores that sell through a landing page, WhatsApp or cash on delivery may do better with it off.
